Tag's Whiskey Bent BBQ LLC specializes in Florida style barbeque, that's affordable and fun. All of our rubs and sauces are made from scratch. Our meats are obtained at Lawhon's Butcher Shop located in N. Ft. Myers. We are fully licensed and insured, you can find us on Sunbiz.org as well as Facebook.

We have the ability to cater any type of event or party, from large to small. Options include having us smoke on sight or delivering the product to your location. We also have licensing and the equipment to offer mobile food vending.

A little back ground on us...

A lot of years ago+ my Dad smoked all kinds of meats in his small grill with offset heat. He was very well known for his smoked London Broil. (Thinking about it makes my mouth water). He would always tell me take your time, "low and slow". When he smoked mullet it was never in his grill but in an old metal refrigerator. My Dad taught me how to make a "cheap at the time" meat that was very tender and awesome - "give ya an idea brisket". No matter what he smoked he would only use oak wood. He would never use any starting fluid to start his grill- only an electric lighter. Well, moving ahead in time, I got married, moved out and figured out that toilet paper cost money! That was when it dawned on me that oak in Florida from my parents property was free and you don't have to get an expensive cut of meat to have a great taste and texture; if you take your time, don't over season and know what your doing.

Through the years I have helped a lot of family and friends cater parties, events and what have you. Great times!!!!

Then the inevitable happened, my daughter got married. The first thing she told me was "Dad, you cannot cook!"

Although that broke my heart, I understood.

So I started getting prices to have her wedding catered. Prices started at $2100.00 and went way up for 125 people. How can a normal person afford this? I called a friend named Jimmy Roberts and his son JD; turns out they did an awesome job! I hope to return the favor! Well, back to my story, that was when I decided since I love to cook and have fun doing it that I would start an affordable BBQ catering. My entire last year at work on Sundays I would make lunch for my shift Section Eight while polishing the flavors and recipes. After I retired from law enforcement I started working on obtaining a mobile food vending license. Uggg!!!

One day I started talking with my friend of over 30 years who was fixing to retire from Publix.

I thought "I could teach a monkey to do this "; especially one with a very long history of working with food. Chris was very excited to get started- so we did! We obtained a Mobile Food Vending License, State License, County License and Food Safety Manager's License.

We were now starting to understand why BBQ is more expensive then other foods. TIME!!!! Turns out we use more oak then we have time to cut and age from our property, so we have to also buy it.. But we only use aged live oak from Florida. The big secret to our flavors is Florida flavors. We grow our own sour oranges used in our sauces, we use orange marmalade in our "signature sauce" and so forth. So Dad was right! We will never try to copy anyone, or any region's BBQ. We are a local Florida North Fort Myers Business and we are proud of that!

Almost forgot the name, Tag's was a nickname given to me when I met one of my best friends in 1990: Rob. Whiskey Bent: well, I kinda come by that one honestly- just ask my wife! (And thank you for all the support, Angel!)
